GrownBy

About the Project

Project Overview

GrownBy is a community-driven mobile marketplace application designed to connect consumers directly with local farms and sustainable food producers. The platform simplifies access to fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced food while supporting ethical farming and community-based food systems.

Built as a farmer-owned cooperative platform, GrownBy enables users to discover nearby farms, purchase fresh produce, join CSA programs, and manage farm pickups, deliveries, or shipping — all through a seamless and user-friendly mobile experience.

The application was developed to strengthen relationships between local farmers and consumers while modernizing the farm-to-table purchasing experience.

The Challenge

Traditional food supply chains often disconnect consumers from local producers while creating logistical and operational challenges for small farms. The client needed a scalable digital solution that could:

  • Simplify local food discovery and ordering
  • Support CSA memberships and recurring farm purchases
  • Help farms manage inventory, pickups, and customer communication
  • Provide flexible fulfillment options including pickup, delivery, and shipping
  • Enable SNAP benefit support for accessible food purchasing
  • Strengthen farmer-customer relationships without third-party marketplace dependency
  • Support cooperative ownership and sustainable food ecosystems

The challenge was to create a technology platform that balanced ease of use for consumers with operational efficiency and ownership control for local farms.
