OrbitRemit: Streamlining Global Remittances with Technology

Project Overview

OrbitRemit is a Wellington-based fintech platform dedicated to reducing the cost and complexity of international money transfers. Weapplinse developed this proprietary digital solution to provide migrant communities and businesses in Australia and New Zealand with a fast, secure, and transparent way to send money to over 45 countries worldwide.

The Challenge

Traditional international banking transfers are often characterized by high fees, opaque exchange rates, and slow processing times. The goal was to build a 100% online service that could beat banks on convenience and cost, requiring highly scalable infrastructure to manage complex transaction variables like fluctuating exchange rates and diverse payout methods.

Our Solution & Technical Approach

We engineered a high-performance, technology-led ecosystem focused on operational efficiency and security:

• Native Mobile Development: Built native iOS and Android applications to ensure a seamless mobile experience, utilizing Kotlin and MVVM architecture for the Android platform.

• Cloud Infrastructure: Leveraged Google Cloud Platform and Docker for containerization to ensure a scalable and robust environment.

• Advanced KYC/AML Integration: Integrated GBG’s greenID solution to electronically verify identities, ensuring full compliance with Anti-Money Laundering legislation while speeding up onboarding.

• Real-Time Transaction Management: Developed a complex backend capable of handling high transaction volumes with integrated real-time financial reporting.

• Fixed Exchange Rates: The rate users see during the transaction is exactly what they get, with no hidden surprises.

• Diverse Payout Options: Supports bank account transfers, mobile wallets (like Alipay and GCash), and cash pickups in select countries.

• Real-Time Transfer Tracking: Users can monitor their transfer status from creation through to beneficiary payment.

• Specialized NZ Payments: Integrated specific services for free payments to the New Zealand Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Ministry of Justice (MOJ), and Inland Revenue (IRD).

• Robust Security: Implemented multi-factor authentication, data encryption, and 24/7 transaction monitoring for fraud prevention.
